The Phoenix Suns finished the 2022 NBA season with the best record in the league. With that, the team landed the first seed in the NBA Western Conference Playoffs. The Suns defeated the New Orleans Pelicans in six games of their first-round series. Phoenix is now matched up against the Dallas Mavericks in the semifinal round of the 2022 NBA Playoffs. Dallas dispatched the Utah Jazz in six games to secure a spot in the second round of the postseason.
The series between the Suns and Mavericks opened with Phoenix beating Dallas 121-114. Phoenix then went up 2-0 with a 129-109 win in Game 2. With the series moving to Dallas for the third and fourth games, the Mavericks were able to take advantage of home court and evened the series with victories of 103-94 and 111-101. The Suns earned the Game 5 win on Tuesday 110-80, and they look to close out the series in tonight’s Game 6 in Dallas.

Suns vs. Mavericks Game 6 picks
Phoenix Suns’ breakdown and analysis
The Phoenix Suns played a great defensive game on Tuesday, and the team’s offense wasn’t that bad either. In the end, the defending NBA Western Conference Champions blew out the Dallas Mavericks 110-80 to come within one game of closing out their NBA Western Conference Semifinal series against the Mavs.
Phoenix limited the Mavericks to 38 percent shooting from the field during Game 5, which was a drop off from the 44.7 percent the Mavericks shot from the field during their Game 4 win.
Devin Booker led the Suns in scoring in Game 5 with 28 points. He shot 55 percent from the field and added three three-pointers while also landing seven rebounds. Deandre Ayton hit the 20-point mark for the first time since Game 1 of the series, putting up 20 points on a 69.2 shooting percentage.
Dallas Mavericks breakdown and analysis
The Dallas Mavericks were in Game 5 against the Phoenix Suns at the half. The Suns were in the lead by a score of 49-46 when the third quarter began. Under six minutes into the third quarter, the Phoenix lead had grown to 68-50. One reason the Mavericks ended up on the wrong end of a blowout was the fact that they gave up 12 turnovers in the third quarter. Another was the team shot 38 percent from the field.
Luka Doncic led the Mavericks in scoring in Game 5 with 28 points and 11 rebounds, but his assists dropped from the 11 he had in Game 4 to a playoff low of two. Doncic is a great player, but at times he can be too selfish. If the Mavericks hope to extend this series to Game 7, Doncic needs to get his teammates more involved in Game 6.
Jalen Brunson put up over 20 points for the second time in the series, scoring 21 on a personal series best shooting percentage of 52.9 percent from the field.
The home team has won each of the previous games in this series. That might give Dallas some confidence heading back to the American Airlines Arena for Game 6 of their series against the Phoenix Suns, but I believe that confidence will be misguided.
Pick: Phoenix Suns to beat Dallas Mavericks.
