The 2022 NBA Playoff Series between the Brooklyn Nets and Boston Celtics began on Sunday in Boston. The home team pulled off a last second win in highlight reel fashion in that game. Boston, who is the No. 2 team in the Eastern Conference, defeated the No. 7 club from Brooklyn by a score of 115-114. The teams remain in Boston for Wednesday’s Game 2 and the Celtics are favored to win and go up 2-0 in this first-round NBA playoff series.

Nets vs. Celtics Game 2 odds

Brooklyn Nets breakdown and analysis

The Brooklyn Nets were one of the favorites to win the 2022 NBA Title for most of the 2021-22 NBA season. Despite the high expectations for the club, Brooklyn finished the season with a 44-38 record and were in the play-in portion of the 2022 NBA Playoffs. The Nets beat the Cleveland Cavaliers in that game and the team leaders, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving played well with Durant scoring 25 points and Irving putting up 34. Both players were on the court for 42 minutes.

In Game 1 of their series against Boston, it was once again Durant and Irving leading the way. Durant scored 23 points on 41 minutes of play and Irving had 39 points in 42 minutes. Two bench players, Nic Claxton and Goran Dragic contributed more than 10 points in the loss.

Boston Celtics breakdown and analysis

The Boston Celtics finished in first place in the Atlantic Division in 2021-22 with a record of 51-31. The Celtics were one of the better home teams in the NBA during the regular season with a record of 28-13 at TD Garden.

Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown lead the Celtics in scoring in the regular season. Tatum averaged 26.9 points per game, while Brown contributed 23.6. Tatum’s points per game were a career best, while Brown’s numbers were slightly lower than his career high of 24.7 last season.

The Celtics starters carried the load for Boston on Sunday night. Tatum (31), Brown (23), Al Horford (20) and Marcus Smart (20) all scored more than 20 points and were on the court for the majority of the game. Tatum paced the team with 45 minutes of play. Brown and Horford also put up 40 or more minutes.

2021-22 NBA season series

The Boston Celtics and Brooklyn Nets played four times during the 2021-22 NBA season. Brooklyn won the first game of their series by a score of 123-104, but Boston won the final three games of the season (126-91, 129-106, 126-120).

Our Pick

The play that won the Celtics Game 1 of this series will stick in the minds of fans of both teams. Smart avoiding two defenders to get the ball to Tatum for the buzzer-beater layup is a play that will be on many “best of” lists for this season.

Game 2 is going to come down to adjustments and which team can make the more meaningful changes before and during the game. It was the adjustments the Celtics made at the half that allowed them to come out and go on a 23-8 run to start the third quarter. However, it was the changes the Nets made during the second half to take a 107-102 lead in the fourth quarter.

I expect Game 2 will be another tightly contested contest, but I think the Celtics defense will get the best of Durant and that will be enough for them to win Game 2 of this series.

Pick: Celtics to beat Nets in Game 2.
