- Most major sportsbooks still offer NHL Player Futures for the Hart, Norris and Calder trophies
- Auston Matthews (-350) is chalk to win the Hart Trophy over Connor McDavid (+550)
- Roman Josi (+135) and Michael Bunting (+400) are underdogs who are still in play for the Norris and Calder, respectively
With less than two weeks left in the hockey season, there’s not a lot of time for players to make a run at certain year-end trophies. But that doesn’t mean all the awards have already been handed out by the Professional Hockey Writers Association.
Let’s check the Hart Trophy betting odds for NHL MVP, the latest Norris Trophy odds for the league’s top defenseman, and the Calder Trophy odds for the NHL’s 2022 Rookie of the Year.
Hart Trophy
Matthews in the driver’s seat
Auston Matthews (-350) set a new Maple Leafs single-season record with 58 goals and counting, and sits fifth in points with 102. After finishing second in Hart voting last year, the 24-year-old is likely a lock for the award, but could perhaps lose momentum if Leon Draisaitl, currently with 54 goals, somehow passed him in the Rocket Richard race over the final six games.
However, the Oilers star would likely siphon votes from teammate Connor McDavid (+550) in that scenario, putting both Jonathan Huberdeau (+950) and Johnny Gaudreau (+2000) in play, especially if one could catch McDavid in points and steal the Art Ross.
Pick: Johnny Gaudreau (+2000)

Norris Trophy
Makar vs Josi
Cale Makar (-155) was a much bigger favorite for the Norris Trophy before Roman Josi (+135) went on a tear down the stretch. While hitting the 100-point mark now seems out of reach for the Predators blueliner, he could hit 94. That would equal the best offensive output for a defenseman in more than 30 years.
That said, Makar also has a strong path to the award with a plus-minus of +48, compared to Josi’s +17, and six more goals. If Josi fails to tally six more points in Nashville’s last six games, voters could choose to award the Avalanche sophomore with his first Norris, rather than give Josi his second in three years.
The Pick: Roman Josi (+135)
Calder Trophy
Safe money on Seider?
If you let NHL executives choose the rookie they want to build around, 32 of 32 might select the Red Wings Moritz Seider (-250). The 21-year-old German leads all rookie rearguards in points (47) and ice time per game (23:05) while building an impressive highlight reel of hits.

However, the Leafs’ Michael Bunting (+400) leads all first-year players in points (63) and his 23 goals put him just one back of the Predators’ Tanner Jeannot in the rookie goal-scoring race. Even though he’s 26 years old and has the good fortune of playing on a line with Matthews and Mitch Marner, voters could give him the nod if he tops all rookies in goals and points.
The Pick: Bunting (+400)
