The PGA Championship returns to Tulsa, Oklahoma at Southern Hills Country Club for the 2022 PGA Championship. We will not see the defending champion play this week as Phil Mickelson has withdrawn from the tournament.
It is no surprise to see who the top players and the top favorites are heading into the week. Jon Rahm is the top betting favorite at +1100 for the week. Scottie Scheffler and the winner of the first major of the season has the second best odds at +1200.
Justin Thomas shares the same odds with Scheffler at +1200. Thomas is a previous PGA Champion.
While the favorites and the big names in the tournament are the ones to talk about, let’s take a look at the dark horses and players that could impress this week in Oklahoma so you can bet against their PGA Championship Odds.
Golf Betting Preview of the Dark Horses and Players to Impress in the 2022 PGA Championship
Will Zalatoris +3500
Will Zalatoris is coming off a disappointing week at the AT&T Byron Nelson. After a promising season last year, Zalatoris has already had a few good showings this year.
Zalatoris had a strong tournament last year at the PGA Championship. He was not able to chase down Phil Mickelson but is looking for his first major this year.
Brooks Koepka +4500
It has been a very quiet year for Brooks Koepka as he prepares to get married. Koepka has played in nine events this year and has missed the cut in four of those events. His latest tournament resulted in a missed cut at Augusta National.
He has placed in the top-10 in two events but it has been primarily a season to forget for Koepka. The PGA Tour veteran is no stranger to holding the Wanamaker Trophy as he won the tournament twice, back-to-back victories in 2018 and 2019.
Tiger Woods +6500
The last time that a major tournament and PGA event was held at Southern Hills Country Club was the 2007 PGA Championship. 15 years later, not only does the tournament return but so does its champion. Tiger Woods won the PGA Championship back in 2007 at the Tulsa, Oklahoma golf course.
Woods has played in one event this season, his miraculous comeback to The Masters in April. We truly did not know if Woods might actually play at Augusta and the same holds true here. While we cannot expect him to compete, it would be crazy to win the same tournament at the same location 15 years removed.
Max Homa +8000
Coming off his big win at the Wells Fargo Championship, Max Homa is ready to go at the PGA Championship. He told the media on Monday that Southern Hills might be the nicest course he has ever seen in his entire life. The three-time PGA Tour winner is looking for his first major this week.
Homa has fared well in his nine starts this season. He has only one other top-10 finish but only has one missed cut as well. I feel that Homa’s odds could be much better than what they are, especially since he has proved himself this season.
