Philly goes with right-hander Kyle Gibson for Game 2, while the Mets send Taijuan Walker to the hill, who is making just his second appearance after recovering from a shoulder injury.

Phillies vs Mets Probable Pitchers

The Phils’ rotation hasn’t been stellar this season, but Gibson is performing well. The 6 foot 6 veteran is 2-1 with a 3.47 ERA in four starts, striking out 23 in 23.1 innings of work. His last two outings were both against a red-hot Rockies offense but Gibson gave his team a chance, allowing two earned across 5.2 frames on Monday.

The Mets are a lineup who are very familiar with him, compiling a .271 average off Gibson. The right-hander dominated them in 2021 though, pitching two a 2.84 ERA in two outings.

Gibson vs Walker

2-1 Record 7-11
3.47 ERA 4.47
0.99 WHIP 1.18
.231 OBA .225

*Walker’s stats are from 2021.

Walker pitched two innings on April 11th against the Phillies before exiting due to a shoulder problem. Thankfully, the MRI came back negative and he didn’t miss too much time. He did look sharp in that outing though, giving up no hits or runs and striking out four. Obviously, it’s a small sample size, but hopefully, the California native can start to pick up where he left off.

The 29-year-old faced Philadelphia five times last season, collecting an 0-2 record and 3.76 ERA. A lot of their lineup has a respectable track record against him, too.

Phillies Betting Outlook

Philadelphia is rolling right now, having just swept the Rockies, who are one of the better teams in the Majors early on. The bats really came alive in that series, scoring 32 runs across four games. They also pitched extremely well, allowing only nine runs. The Phillies’ offense is certainly living up to the loft expectations, ranking in the top-five in hits, runs, average, and slugging.

Nick Castellanos has shined, hitting .319 with three homers and 19 RBI. He is one of many who rakes off Walker, batting .286. Also, Kyle Schwarber destroys the righty, slashing .455 with five homers off him in just 11 at-bats. In fact, five regulars are hitting over .330 vs. Walker.

Mets Betting Outlook

New York is flying high at the top of the National League with a solid 14-6 record and absolutely thriving at the plate and on the mound. They’re hitting .259 as a group and have scored 4.7 runs per contest, which ranks sixth in the MLB. Despite being without Jacob deGrom, Buck Showalter’s rotation is dominating on a weekly basis, sitting first in strikeouts per nine innings and fourth in team ERA at 2.93.

There is a ton of experience in this lineup against Gibson, most notably Francisco Lindor. He’s faced him 43 times, hitting an impressive .349. Although he’s one of the only guys who has enjoyed success vs. the right-hander, the Mets’ offense can’t be taken for granted right now. Lindor’s NL MVP odds are also at +1000.

Phillies vs Mets Prediction

Both teams were hot going into game one, but the Phillies ended it with a no-hitter. I fancy the Phillies to bounce back though. Walker hasn’t pitched much this year and Philadelphia’s bats will be poised to bounce back after a dismal series opener. Take the moneyline.

Pick: Phillies +105
