The New York Rangers and Carolina Hurricanes go head to head in Game 2 of their 2nd round series on Friday, May 20th at PNC Arena. The faceoff is scheduled for 9:00 pm ET and will be broadcast on ESPN.
Carolina won game 1 on an overtime winner from an unlikely source in defenseman Ian Cole. The 2-1 final is likely indicative of how tight this series will be between these two opponents as the Rangers pushed Carolina for the Metropolitan Division title until the final week of the season.
With home ice advantage, the Hurricanes are once again moneyline favorites to take the 2nd contest of this series against the Rangers.
Let’s take a look at the rest of the Rangers vs Hurricanes odds and give you our NHL best bet for Game 2.

Rangers Betting Analysis
For the Rangers, game 1 had to be a difficult result to swallow. They dominated the first 40 minutes of the contest, outshooting Carolina 22-14 at 5-on-5 play and they had an incredible 77.74% edge in expected goals (via NaturalStatTrick).

They just couldn’t find that second marker that would’ve given them some breathing room. While the defense played exceptionally well, Vezina Trophy odds favorite Igor Shesterkin looked much better than he did in the Rangers first round series against the Penguins.
The Russian netminder allowed three or more goals in all but one game against the Penguins, so seeing him stop 24 of 26 against the Canes was a welcome sight for his squad. Unfortunately for the Blueshirts, he got outplayed by the masked man at the other end, Carolina goaltender Antti Raanta.
Hurricanes Betting Outlook
You get the feeling there is something special about this Hurricanes team this year as they currently sit amongst the top three teams in the 2022 Stanley Cup odds.
Rod Brind’Amour’s squad just seems to get it done when they need to. After 40 minutes of dispirited play in game 1, they came out firing in the 3rd period with Sebastian Aho netting the equalizer with under three minutes left in regulation.

Raanta was outstanding in keeping the Hurricanes within a goal through the first two periods. He’s given up just eight goals over his last four games, bringing calm to a team that’s been missing their number one goalie, Frederik Andersen, throughout the postseason.

Interestingly enough, the two best defensive teams in the league combined to go over the goals total in three of four regular season meetings.
Rangers vs Hurricanes Pick & Prediction
Carolina are once again the favorites for good reason in the Rangers vs Hurricanes Friday NHL odds. They have not lost a home game in the playoffs this season, going a perfect 5-0 so far. Stretching back to the regular season, it’s been over a month since they’ve lost at home.
The defensive nature of the first game of this series is something we can likely expect throughout this postseason matchup between two squads who were ranked number one and two in goals against during the season. There wasn’t much to choose from either side in game 1 and that narrative will likely follow in Game 2.
Shesterkin was just three minutes away from his first shutout this postseason and his confidence seems to be rising after a tough first round against Pittsburgh. The Rangers also limited the offensive jump of Carolina’s stellar blueliners.
Given the odds and the fact that the Rangers dominated many parts of game 1, New York feels like a great NHL betting option here. Carolina did nothing to distinguish themselves as the better team in game 1, they just got the lucky bounce in overtime.
It will likely be curtains for New York if they go back to Manhattan down 0-2 in the series, so there will be some desperation to their play. For all the aforementioned reasons, expect the Blueshirts to deliver Carolina their first L of the playoffs and pick the Rangers on the moneyline with +140 NHL odds at Barstool Sportsbook.
