The Rockies must have been feeling pretty good about themselves when the week began. They’d reeled off 10 wins in their first 15 games and were among only a handful of teams with double-digit victories. All it took was a series with the Phillies to bring them crashing back down to earth.
Colorado has dropped each of the first three games in Philly this week, and will try to avoid the sweep when the two teams meet in the series finale on Thursday.

|Philadelphia Phillies||-195||-1.5 (+105)||U 7.5 (-115)|
Odds as of April 27th at Caesars Sportsbook.
The Phillies opened up as sizeable -190 moneyline favorites, in a contest that features a total of 7.5 runs. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05pm ET at Citizens Bank Park, with sunshine and cool temperatures in the forecast.
The Rockies, who were pegged to finish with the fewest victories at the start of the year in the MLB win totals, will look to lefty Austin Gomber to stop the bleeding. Last time out, the southpaw rebounded from a pair of shaky starts to post his best outing of the season.
Austin Gomber was locked in during Game 2 against the Detroit Tigers:

Gomber pitched 6 innings of shutout ball versus the Tigers, scattering four hits while striking out eight. The start followed consecutive appearances where he couldn’t get out of the 5th inning. He yielded eight runs and 12 hits over his first two outings, walking just as many batters as he struck out (6).
The 28-year-old posted a 9-9 record in 2021, but was a dismal 4-8 on the road with a woeful 6.22 ERA. He’s faced the Phillies just once in his career, and that was in a relief role back in 2018.
Gomber vs Wheeler Stats
Philadelphia meanwhile, will counter with a struggling Zack Wheeler. The 31-year-old remains a top-seven contender in the NL Cy Young odds despite a horrific start.
Wheeler has lost all three of his outing so far, yielding 11 runs and 15 hits in his past two starts alone. His disappointing start is especially surprising given how well he pitched in 2021.
Last year he set a career-high in wins with 14, while posting a career-low 2.78 ERA and 1.01 WHIP. He also posted the highest strikeout-to-walk rate of his career at 5.4, which was 1.5 strikeouts higher than his previous best.
Wheeler faced the Rockies once last year and was spectacular. He surrendered only one run and five hits over 6.2 innings of work en route to victory.
Rockies vs Phillies Betting Analysis
Not only have the Phillies won each of the first three games of this series, they’ve completely dominated. They’ve crossed the plate 25 times so far, outscoring Colorado by 17 runs.

Philadelphia entered Wednesday’s action as a top-eight scoring team in baseball, while also ranking top-seven in slugging and OPS. Their .255 average was the third highest in MLB, behind only the Cubs and Rockies.
Colorado’s stats are being propped up by a hot start to the season however, as the Rockies bats have gone cold recently. They’re averaging just three runs per game in their past six outings, and are hitting a paltry .217 over the past week.

Rockies vs Phillies Pick
On the injury front, Colorado could be without Kris Bryant for a third consecutive game due to a back injury. His potential absence certainly won’t help the Rockies keep pace with the red-hot Phillies, and the struggling Colorado bats present a prime opportunity for Wheeler to turn his season around.
The Philly bats have been raking all series and we shouldn’t expect that to slowdown versus the lefty Gomber. Philadelphia has crushed left-handed pitching this season, posting a .465 slugging percentage and .809 OPS, compared to a .385 slugging percentage and .698 OPS versus righties.

All eight of the Rockies losses this season have come by at least two runs and I like that trend to continue on Thursday.
Picks: Philadelphia Phillies -1.5 (+105), Over 7.5 (-105)
