AL Central rivals will clash on Monday at Comerica Park as the Detroit Tigers begin a four-game series with the Minnesota Twins. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:10pm ET.
Dylan Bundy, who has pitched very well since coming off the COVID-19 IL, gets the start for the division-leading Twins here. Detroit counters with rookie Beau Brieske.

Twins vs Tigers Probable Pitchers
Bundy’s 4.55 ERA doesn’t exactly scream consistency. But in seven starts, he’s punched out 31 batters in 33.2 innings of work while walking just eight. The righty has been hit around at times this season, but he’s really looked solid as of late.
Since recovering from COVID-19, the former first-round pick has pitched 8.2 innings across two outings and surrendered only one run.

Coincidentally enough, his last start was against the Tigers on May 25th. Bundy held them to a single run in 5.2 frames, also striking out six hitters.
Bundy vs Brieske Stats
3-2 | Record | 0-4 |
4.54 | ERA | 5.04 |
1.28 | WHIP | 1.38 |
.261 | OBA | .252 |
Brieske was called up by the Tigers for his big league debut in late April. The rookie is sporting a 5.04 ERA in six starts and hasn’t yet collected a win at the MLB level, posting a 0-4 record.
Aside from giving up his fair share of runs (17 ER in 30.1 innings), Brieske is also struggling with his command, allowing 12 walks.
Final line for #Tigers RHP Beau Brieske: 4.0 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 R, 1 BB, 3 K. 90 pitches, 55 strikes.
Five swings and misses: three fastballs, two changeups.

That being said, there is optimism for Monday’s outing. Brieske faced Minnesota on May 24th, tossing four innings and giving up just two earned runs. He did a good job of pounding the strike zone and attacking the Twins’ potent lineup.
Twins Rolling
Minnesota is in extremely good shape right now, sitting five games ahead of the White Sox for first place in the AL Central with a 29-19 record. They’re also 7-3 in their last 10 games after taking the series finale from the Royals on Sunday by a score of 7-3.

The Twins banged out 11 hits on the day including three homers. Gio Urshela cranked a three-run bomb in the third, while Nick Gordon and Trevor Larnach also went yard. Rocco Baldelli’s squad has an MLB win total projection of 81 and at this rate, they’re on track to surpass that.
Another Poor Year For Detroit
It’s been a long time since the Tigers were a contender and unfortunately, this season isn’t turning out any differently for them so far. Detroit is 11 games behind the Twins in the division, compiling a dismal 17-29 record. Although their arms have actually pitched decent, the offense couldn’t be worse.
A few years ago, ESPN named the 2010 Seattle Mariners as the worst offense in the history of baseball.
They scored 513 runs that season.
The 2022 Detroit Tigers are on-pace to score 439 runs.

The Tigers rank dead last in the bigs with 2.7 runs per game and also sit in the bottom five in average, hits, slugging, and OBP. On a more positive note though, they’ve won three of their last four games and beat the Guardians 2-1 on Sunday.

Twins vs Tigers Prediction
As you can see, the Twins have dominated this matchup across the last two seasons. With that in mind and Bundy in very fine form right now on the hill, I have to take Minnesota here. There’s big value in the runline.
Pick: Twins -1.5 (+100)
